On December 1, 2024, the universal nuclear icebreaker Yakutia of Project 22220 (LK-60YA), built at JSC Baltiysky Zavod (as part of JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation - USC), first entered the Gulf of Finland from St. Petersburg for factory sea trials. This is the fourth nuclear icebreaker of the 22220 project.

In August 2019, JSC Baltiyskiy Zavod received a contract from FSUE Atomflot worth about 100 billion rubles for the construction of the fourth and fifth universal nuclear icebreakers of Project 22220 (LK-60YA). The deadline for the icebreakers, which have been named Yakutia and Chukotka, is scheduled for 2024 and 2026.
The nuclear icebreaker Yakutia (construction number 05709) under this contract was laid down at JSC Baltiyskiy Zavod on May 26, 2020, launched on November 22, 2022 and has now begun testing. The nuclear icebreaker Chukotka (building number 05712) was laid down there on December 16, 2020 and launched on November 6, 2024.
Earlier, under contracts in 2012 and 2014 with FSUE Rosatomflot, the Baltic Plant carried out the construction of the first three nuclear icebreakers of project 22220 (LK-60YA), of which the main Arktika (construction number 05706) was commissioned in Murmansk on October 21, 2020, the second icebreaker Siberia (construction number 05707) It was commissioned on December 24, 2021, and the third icebreaker Ural (construction number 05708) was commissioned on November 22, 2022.
On February 2, 2023, FSUE Atomflot and JSC Baltiyskiy Zavod signed a contract for the construction of the sixth and seventh nuclear icebreakers of Project 22220 (LK-60YA), with commissioning in December 2028 and December 2030. The laying of the first icebreaker under this contract "Leningrad" (construction number 05713) was carried out on January 26, 2024, the laying of the second icebreaker "Stalingrad" is scheduled for 2025.
The icebreakers of project 22220 were designed by JSC Central Design Bureau USK-Iceberg and are equipped with a two-reactor nuclear power plant of a new type RITM-200 with a shaft capacity of 60 MW developed by JSC OKBM Afrikantov, and are the largest and most powerful icebreakers in the world. The length of the icebreaker of this project is 173.3 meters, the width is 34 meters, the draft along the structural waterline is 10.5 meters, the minimum working draft is 8.55 meters. The displacement is 33540 tons.
