On January 31, 2024, in St. Petersburg, JSC Admiralty Shipyards (part of JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation - USC) hosted a ceremony of raising the Naval Flag of the Russian Federation on one of the long-term domestic shipbuilding projects - the large diesel-electric submarine B-586 Kronstadt (factory number 01571), being the second submarine of project 677 (code "Lada").

The event was attended by Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Viktor Yevtukhov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Alexander Moiseev, Commander of the Northern Fleet, representatives of the Main Command of the Navy and the Northern Fleet, the leadership of the USC and the plant, as well as the Kronstadt district of St. Petersburg.
With the raising of the Naval Flag, the Kronstadt submarine officially became part of the Russian Navy. In accordance with the order announced at the ceremony by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, the ship was enlisted in the formation of the Kola Flotilla of the heterogeneous forces of the Northern Fleet.
Nikolai Evmenov called the event a festive day for the entire Navy of the country. "We are taking a new generation non-nuclear submarine into the fleet. During the state tests, the ship demonstrated all the best qualities that the designers put into it, and confirmed its combat characteristics. The project was brought to life by the golden hands of the shipbuilders of the Admiralty shipyards. This is the first submarine to be part of the Northern Fleet brigade. She will practice all her combat qualities in the Northern Fleet," the commander-in-chief noted.
On the part of bmpd, we recall that the second large diesel-electric submarine of project 677 (code "Lada") B-586 Kronstadt (factory number 01571) was laid down at Admiralty Shipyards JSC on July 28, 2005, however, in 2009, by decision of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the construction of the ship was suspended until transfer to trial operation of the lead submarine of the project 677 B-585 "Saint Petersburg".
The state contract for the resumption of construction of the B-586 Kronstadt boat according to the adjusted technical design was signed on July 9, 2013. The Kronstadt submarine was eventually launched at Admiralty Shipyards JSC on September 20, 2018, and first entered factory sea trials only on December 17, 2021. State tests of the boat were started in December 2022 and have only now been handed over to the Navy.
The development of a new generation non-nuclear submarine of Project 677 (project 06770, code "Lada") has been carried out by JSC TSKB MT Rubin since the early 1980s. The lead submarine of project 677 B-585 "Saint Petersburg" (serial number 01570) was laid down at JSC Admiralty Shipyards on December 26, 1997. However, the construction of the boat took a long time and it was launched only on October 28, 2004 and entered factory sea trials in 2007. On April 22, 2010, the St. Petersburg submarine was accepted by the Russian Navy, but then it was in pilot operation in the Northern Fleet for more than a decade, and only on September 21, 2021, it was commissioned into the Navy. In April 2020, the boat moved back to the Baltic Sea, where it is located in Kronstadt awaiting repair and modernization. In April 2023, it was reported that the Navy intended to write off the St. Petersburg submarine due to the inexpediency of its modernization.
The third submarine of project 677 with the serial number 01572 was laid down at JSC Admiralty Shipyards on November 10, 2006 under the name B-587 Sevastopol. In 2009, by decision of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the construction of the second and third (Kronstadt and Sevastopol) The ships of Project 677 were suspended until the transfer of the lead submarine of project 677 "Saint Petersburg" to trial operation. In October 2013, the name "Sevastopol" was abolished for this boat by order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy and transferred to a universal landing ship of the Mistral type ordered in France for the Russian Navy. The contract for the construction of the third submarine of project 677 according to the adjusted technical design was signed by the plant in December 2014. On March 19, 2015, the submarine of project 677 B-587 (serial number 01572) was re-leased to JSC Admiralty Shipyards under the name Velikiye Luki. The launching ceremony of the submarine B-587 Velikiye Luki took place on December 23, 2022, and on December 21, 2023, the submarine entered factory sea trials for the first time. Its commissioning by the Navy is considered possible by the end of 2024.
In July 2017, at the International Naval Salon MVMS-2017 in St. Petersburg, the then General Director of JSC Admiralty Shipyards, Alexander Buzakov, stated that under the terms of state contracts, the delivery of the Kronstadt and Velikiye Luki submarines to the Russian Navy was scheduled for 2020 and 2021, respectively.
Following the completion of the Kronstadt, the Russian Navy attempted to resume serial construction of submarines according to the modified project 677. In June 2019, within the framework of the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2019", a contract was signed between the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and JSC Admiralty Shipyards for the construction of two new submarines of Project 677 for the Russian Navy. Their laying under the names Vologda (factory number 01573) and Yaroslavl (factory number 01574) was carried out at JSC Admiralty Shipyards on June 12, 2022. However, in December 2023, the order of the Director General of the Admiralty Shipyards referred to the actual suspension of work on these boats "due to lack of funding."
On August 25, 2020, within the framework of the International Military-Technical Forum "Army 2020", the Ministry of Defense signed a contract for the construction of another submarine of project 677, which thereby should become the sixth unit of this type.
