As reported on November 28, 2022, PJSC United Aircraft Corporation, the Ulyanovsk branch of PJSC IL - Aviastar (part of PJSC United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec State Corporation), manufactured and handed over the next serial heavy military transport aircraft Il-76MD-90A, built in the interests of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

The fourth IL-76MD-90A military transport aircraft built in 2022 at the Ulyanovsk branch of PJSC Il - Aviastar (part of PJSC United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec State Corporation) and transferred to the Russian Aerospace Forces (factory number 0301, registration number RF-78666). "We conduct regular deliveries of aviation equipment in the interests of the Ministry of Defense. This year, lots of Su-30SM2 and Su-35S fighters, Su-34 front-line bombers, Yak-130 combat training aircraft have already been transferred to the troops, and today the Russian army has received another serial military transport Il-76MD-90A. This car is a deep development of the legendary Soviet IL-76. It received a new engine, an improved wing, a "glass cabin", has an increased flight range and payload capacity. In fact, this is a new aircraft that meets all modern requirements, which will become the basis of Russian transport aviation. We are systematically increasing the production of these vehicles for the Russian military department, the next transport vehicle is in a high degree of readiness," said Sergey Chemezov, Director of Rostec State Corporation.

In order to fulfill the tasks of increasing production volumes, the Ulyanovsk aircraft factory continues to recruit the main production workers and conducts its own training in the most popular professions. Currently, more than 1,000 people have already been accepted, of which 80 percent are students in working specialties. In 2023, the plant plans to grow by more than 1,100 production workers.

"The delivery of new transport aircraft is our contribution to meeting the needs of the BTA and strengthening the country's defense capability. Today, the next IL-76MD-90A is in the assembly line. The plant is already creating a production reserve for next year. There are several aircraft in the workshops in varying degrees of readiness, which are planned to be delivered in 2023," said Yuri Slyusar, General Director of the United Aircraft Corporation.

From the bmpd side, we point out that, judging by the photos accompanying the UAC press release, the fourth Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft built in 2022 at the Ulyanovsk branch of PJSC Il - Aviastar with the factory number 0301 was transferred to the Ministry of Defense of Russia (previously mistakenly reported about the factory number 0211) and registration number RF-78666. The aircraft was pumped out of the workshop on October 20, 2022 and made its first flight at the Ulyanovsk-Vostochny factory airfield complex on November 3.

As reported earlier, at the end of October, the third Il-76MD-90A aircraft built in 2022 at Aviastar was handed over to the Ministry of Defense of Russia - a board with the factory number 0210 and registration number RF-78665, which made its first flight on August 26. Thus, the Aviastar plant delivered four IL-76MD-90A aircraft for the first time in a year.

It is also reported that on November 29, Aviastar rolled out the fifth Il-76MD-90A aircraft built in 2022 with factory number 0302 and registration number 78667.

These two Il-76MD-90A aircraft became, respectively, the 12th and 13th sides built at Aviastar in Ulyanovsk under a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense dated October 2012 for the production of 39 Il-76MD-90A units worth 139.42 billion rubles. Due to the strong delay in the implementation of the contract and the increase in the actual cost of the aircraft, in May 2020, the Russian Ministry of Defense renegotiated with Aviastar-SP JSC (now a branch of Il PJSC - Aviastar) a contract for the supply of Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft on new terms. Under the new conditions, under the old contract of 2012, the plant was now supposed to deliver a total of 13 Il-76MD-90A aircraft (and thus the contract is now completed), and from 2021 a new contract for the supply of 14 such aircraft by 2028 was to come into force.

The first IL-76MD-90A aircraft, for the Russian Ministry of Defense under a 2012 contract with serial number 0108 (registration number RF-78654), built at Aviastar, was first flown on December 15, 2015, and on January 17, 2016 entered the 610th Center for Combat Use and Retraining of Flight Personnel the composition of the military transport aviation named after Marshal of Aviation N. S. Skripko in Ivanovo.

The second and third IL-76MD-90A aircraft under the 2012 contract were built by Aviastar in 2018 and delivered to the Ministry of Defense of Russia in the first half of 2019 - boards with serial numbers 0109 (registration number RF-78655, made its first flight in Ulyanovsk on November 7, 2018 and was transferred to the Russian Aerospace Forces on April 2 2019) and 0110 (registration number RF-78656, made its first flight on December 22, 2018 and transferred to the VKS on May 16, 2019). Both of these aircraft became part of the 235th Military Transport Aviation Regiment of the 18th Military Transport Aviation Division of the Military Transport Aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces, formed at the end of 2017, based at the Aviastar-SP Ulyanovsk-Vostochny factory airfield, becoming the first two Il-76MD-90A to enter the linear unit VKS of Russia. The same regiment then received the only new Il-76MD-90A aircraft built in 2019 (the fourth under this contract) - a board with the factory number 0202 (registration number RF-78657), lifted into the air on June 13, 2019 and transferred to the Russian Aerospace Forces on August 30, 2019.

In 2020, Aviastar launched three new Il-76MD-90A aircraft (the fifth, sixth and seventh under this contract). On March 17, 2020, an Il-76MD-90A aircraft with factory number 0203 (registration number RF-78658, name "Heinrich Novozhilov") made its first flight at the Ulyanovsk-Vostochny factory airfield complex, on August 26 - the second aircraft with factory number 0204 (registration number RF-78659, in August 2021 received the name "Nikolai Makarovets"), and on December 6 - the third aircraft with the factory number 0205 (registration number RF-78660). All three of these aircraft were transferred to the Russian Ministry of Defense only on January 29, 2021, also becoming part of the 235th Military Transport Aviation Regiment.

In 2021, Aviastar lifted into the air only two new IL-76MD-90A aircraft (the eighth and ninth under this contract), which were handed over to the Ministry of Defense of Russia in September and December 2021 and also became part of the 235th Military Transport Aviation Regiment - board with factory numbers 0206 (registration number RF-78661, first flight in Ulyanovsk on June 10, 2021) and 0207 (registration number RF-78662, first flight on October 4, 2021).

Now in 2022 Aviastar has already delivered four IL-76MD-90A aircraft. The first IL-76MD-90A aircraft built in 2022 with factory number 0208 (registration number RF-78663) was pumped out of the workshop in mid-January 2022, made its first flight on March 16 and was transferred to the 235th Military Transport Aviation Regiment on April 22, becoming the ninth Il-76MD-90A in the regiment. The second IL-76MD-90A aircraft built in 2022 with the factory number 0209 (registration number RF-78664) was pumped out of the workshop at the end of May 2022, made its first flight on June 7 and was handed over to the Russian Aerospace Forces on October 12. Now two more aircraft with factory numbers 0210 and 0301 have been delivered.

Earlier, Aviastar, under a contract dated November 2011, JSC UAC - Transport Aircraft built three Il-76MD-90A aircraft of the installation batch with serial numbers 0103, 0104, 0105 in 2014-2015. The first two of them were transferred to PJSC "Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex named after G. M. Beriev" (TANTK) to create special-purpose vehicles on their basis, and the aircraft with serial number 0105 was also transferred to the 610th Central Air Transport Control Station in Ivanovo on December 3, 2015.

In addition, Aviastar also built the first prototype of the IL-78M-90A tanker aircraft (serial number 0201, registration number RF-78741), developed by PJSC Il on the basis of the Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft and made its first flight in Ulyanovsk on January 19, 2018. However, after 11 months of improvements, only on December 27, 2018, the first Il-78M-90A prototype made its fourth test flight, officially credited as the first under the factory flight test program. This aircraft continues to be at the testing stage.

Thus, to date, the Aviastar plant has built and delivered a total of 17 copies (including a prototype) of the Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft and one prototype of the Il-78M-90A tanker aircraft.
