On December 23, 2022, the Admiralty Shipyards JSC (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation - USC JSC) in St. Petersburg hosted the launching ceremony of the large diesel-electric submarine B-587 Velikiye Luki (factory number 01572) under construction for the Russian Navy through the launching dock - the third submarine of Project 677 (code "Lada"), which is one of the "long-term projects" of the Russian military shipbuilding. The descent ceremony was attended by the General Director of USC Alexey Rakhmanov.

Launching ceremony at Admiralty Shipyards JSC of the large diesel-electric submarine B-587 Velikiye Luki (factory number 01572) of project 677 (code "Lada") under construction for the Russian Navy. Saint Petersburg, 23.12.2022 (c) JSC "United Shipbuilding Corporation" The third submarine of Project 677 with the factory number 01572 was laid down at JSC Admiralty Shipyards on November 10, 2006 under the name B-587 Sevastopol.

In 2009, by the decision of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, the construction of the second and third ("Kronstadt" and "Sevastopol") the ships of project 677 were suspended until the transfer to trial operation of the lead submarine of project 677 B-585 "Saint Petersburg". In October 2013, the name "Sevastopol" was abolished for this boat by order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy and transferred to a universal landing ship of the Mistral type ordered in France for the Russian Navy. The contract for the construction of the third submarine of project 677 according to the adjusted technical design was signed by the plant in December 2014. On March 19, 2015, the submarine of Project 677 B-587 (factory number 01572) was re-loaned to JSC Admiralty Shipyards under the name Velikiye Luki.In July 2017, at the International Naval Salon MVMS-2017 in St. Petersburg, the General Director of JSC Admiralty Shipyards, Alexander Buzakov, stated that under the terms of state contracts, the delivery of the Kronstadt and Velikiye Luki submarines of the Russian Navy is scheduled for 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Now the deadline for the delivery of the boat "Velikiye Luki" is already 2024.

The development of a new generation non-nuclear submarine of Project 677 (project 06770, code "Lada") has been carried out by JSC "TSKB MT "Rubin" since the early 1980s. The lead submarine of Project 677 B-585 "Saint Petersburg" (factory number 01570) was laid down at JSC Admiralty Shipyards on December 26, 1997. However, the construction of the boat stretched for a long time and it was launched only on October 28, 2004 and entered factory sea trials in 2007. On April 22, 2010, the St. Petersburg submarine was accepted by the Russian Navy, but then it was in trial operation in the Northern Fleet for more than a decade, and only on September 21, 2021, it was commissioned into the Navy. In April 2020, the boat moved back to the Baltic Sea and is currently part of the Baltic Fleet.

The second submarine of the project 677 B-586 Kronstadt (factory number 01571) was laid down at JSC Admiralty Shipyards on July 28, 2005. In 2009, by the decision of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, the construction of the second and third ("Kronstadt" and "Sevastopol") The ships of Project 677 were suspended until the lead submarine of Project 677 B-585 "Saint Petersburg" was put into trial operation. The state contract for the resumption of the construction of the submarine B-586 "Kronstadt" according to the corrected technical design was signed in July 2013. The Kronstadt submarine was eventually launched at Admiralty Shipyards JSC on September 20, 2018, and entered factory sea trials only on December 17, 2021, in December 2022 its State tests were started.

Following the completion of the Kronstadt, the Russian Navy attempted to resume serial construction of submarines under the modified project 677. In June 2019, within the framework of the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2019", a contract was signed between the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and JSC Admiralty Shipyards for the construction of the fourth and fifth submarines of Project 677 for the Russian Navy. Their laying under the names "Vologda" (factory number 01573) and "Yaroslavl" (factory number 01574) was carried out at JSC "Admiralty Shipyards" on June 12, 2022.

On August 25, 2020, within the framework of the International Military-Technical Forum "Army 2020", the Russian Ministry of Defense signed a contract for the construction of another submarine of Project 677, which thereby should become the sixth unit of this type.

In November 2018, the then Commander-in-Chief of the Navy of the Russian Federation, Admiral Vladimir Korolev, said that it was planned to mass-build for the Navy "at least 12 units of the newest diesel-electric submarines of the Lada type."
