Tests of the upgraded patrol ship project 11540 "Intrepid" have begun. It was equipped with new digital control systems that significantly increase combat capabilities.
The patrol ship "Undaunted" sailed into the Baltic Sea, having begun to carry out the program of acceptance tests, TASS reported .
During the first trip to the sea, specialists will check the operation of the main power plant and the navigation systems of the ship. They are supposed to make several trips to the sea: their total duration will be approximately 30 days. After that, the "Intrepid" will be handed over to the Russian Navy.
In 2014, the patrol ship arrived at the Yantar shipbuilding enterprise for repair work. The analysis showed that they need to be performed in a larger volume than initially assumed.
Yantar specialists repaired and re-installed afterburners. The ship's armament has also undergone modernization. As Izvestia noted last year, after all the work, the Intrepid turned into a virtually new ship. It is assumed that he will be one of the most effective submarine hunters in the Russian navy.
Undaunted became the first representative of Project 11540. It was launched on May 25, 1988 and commissioned on January 24, 1993.

The displacement (full) of the "Intrepid" is 4350 tons. The length of the ship (the largest) is 129.8 meters. The crew consists of 210 people. The autonomy of swimming is 30 days.
The main tasks of the Project 11540 ships are the search, detection and destruction of enemy submarines. In addition, they can fight surface ships, support ground forces' combat operations, provide cover and advance of amphibious forces, and solve other tasks.
In total, two representatives of Project 11540 were built and commissioned into the Russian Navy. The second was "Yaroslav the Wise". The third ship was laid down, but later decided to dispose of it.
In the future, the Russian Navy may receive a fundamentally new submerged patrol ship "Sentinel". Its first version (concept) was shown last year, and recently the appearance of an export modification was presented .
Presumably, she will be able to reach speeds of up to 21 knots (about 39 kilometers per hour), and the cruising range will reach four thousand miles at a speed of ten knots. They want to equip the updated Sentinel with an automatic cannon, guided missile launchers and torpedo tubes.
