Bastion coastal missile systems on the Kuril island of Matua will provide protection of Russian waters. This is reported by the Zvezda TV channel with reference to military expert Viktor Litovkin.
"Matua Island, where the battery of the Bastion anti-ship complex is located— is the northernmost island of the Kuril Ridge. Between it and the southern tip of Kamchatka - the strait is quite wide. To protect this strait from uninvited guests, this battery was placed on Matua," Litovkin called the purpose of the new weapon.
The expert said that the firing range of the complex is 600 kilometers. He also stressed the accuracy of the Onyx anti-ship missile.
On Thursday, December 2, the press service of the Eastern Military District reported that the Bastion missile defense system was deployed on Matua Island for the first time. The report noted that the calculations of the complexes will monitor the adjacent water area and the strait zones around the clock.
In November, Izvestia reported that the Black Sea Fleet would receive enhanced Bal missile defense systems. The complexes will be equipped with X-35 missiles with a range increased to 300 kilometers. "Bal" has received a new guidance system that allows you to hit not only sea, but also ground targets.
