The Russian Navy will receive new submarines by the end of the year. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced on Wednesday, December 1, that the Navy will transfer the submarines "Prince Oleg" of project 955A and "Novosibirsk" of project 885M. This is reported by the Izvestia newspaper.
During a conference call, the head of the defense department noted that the submarines "Prince Oleg" and "Novosibirsk" plan to transfer to the fleet in December.
Earlier, Poland assessed the state of the Russian submarine fleet. The publication Defence24 noted that the Russian Navy remains one of the strongest in the world thanks to nuclear submarines. The publication stressed that Russian enterprises allow to produce no more than one ship of project 955A (code "Borey-A") and two boats of project 885M (code "Ash-M").
In October, Sevmash CEO Mikhail Budnichenko announced that the Belgorod, Novosibirsk and Knyaz Oleg nuclear submarines would complete tests by the end of the year. According to him, the ships confirm their characteristics during sea trials.
In September, Alexey Rakhmanov, General Director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), said that new production technologies could accelerate the production of submarines. He noted that the technology of quality control of welding seams and a new way of joining sections will shorten the construction time.
