The German Leopard 2A7 tank has passed the first stage of testing of the active protection complex (KAZ) Trophy. The development of the Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems provided effective protection of the tank. The Israeli Defense Ministry has published a corresponding message on its Twitter account. This is reported by Army Recognition.
The tests were conducted by specialists from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and the German company KMW (Kraus-Maffei Wegmann). The first stage of the tests demonstrated the possibility of integrating KAZ into Leopard 2. Also during the tests Trophy reflected more than 90 percent of attacking ammunition and allowed to determine the location of the shooter.
Testing of the complex was carried out within the framework of the agreement signed in February. The contract implies the purchase of KAZ Trophy for German tanks. KMW specialists will ensure the integration of protection systems into tanks.
In September, Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land presented a modified Challenger 3 tank at the DSEI-2021 defense exhibition. The British tank received a German-made gun, new ammunition and a Trophy active protection complex.
In the same month, Rossiyskaya Gazeta drew attention to the change in the characteristics of Leopard 2 A7+ tanks. The weight of the vehicle increased to 67.5 tons, which led to a decrease in the maximum speed of the tank to 60 kilometers per hour.
In August, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems demonstrated a model of the Russian T-90 tank with elements of the KAZ Trophy. The mock-up demonstrates the possibility of installing an Israeli system on Russian-made tanks.
