Russia has recently been paying special attention to the development of aerial and underwater drones. And the military will rely on them in the future.
Analyst Mark Episkopos writes about this in the publication of The National Interest. He refers to the words of Oleg Savchenko, Director General of the Krylov State Research Center, who earlier in an interview with TASS said that as part of the improvement of the Russian army, special attention will be paid to the use of various unmanned systems. The American expert mentions the latest serious development - the drone "Thunder", which is able to control a swarm of small drones "Lightning", a heavy attack UAV "Hunter", which, as expected, can be used from ships.
Drones are becoming an integral part of the Russian Navy, the newspaper notes. We are talking primarily about the Poseidon, which can be equipped with a nuclear warhead. Poseidon moves too deep and fast, so it is difficult to intercept it with the means currently available in NATO. It can also be used to destroy carrier strike groups.
The Russian fleet, if compared with the Soviet one, has become smaller, but at the same time it is becoming more advanced every year, The National Interest concludes.
