The PT-76 floating tanks continue to be operated by the Indonesian Marines and ground forces. Judging by the published pictures, Soviet cars have been modernized. This is reported by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
Since 1962, Indonesia has received about a hundred floating tanks. 55 vehicles continue to serve in the Marine Corps of the Indonesian Navy, and 12 tanks are used in the ground forces. In the published pictures, the military showed upgraded versions of the PT-76.
The publication notes that the cars received a new sight with a laser rangefinder and a passive night channel. The Soviet 76 mm D-56T cannon gave way to the modern 90 mm Cockerill Mk III A-2 cannon. The new armament allows the PT-76 to hit targets at a range of up to 6000 meters. In turn, the Soviet twin machine gun SGMT was replaced by the Belgian GPMG.
Also, Indonesian tanks received a new Detroit Diesel 6V92T engine, which allowed to increase the maximum speed of the car to 58 kilometers per hour.
In September, pictures of the PT-76 overhaul process in Vietnam appeared . The restoration of the machines takes place at the X70 plant, which belongs to the Marine Engineering Department.
In August, the Sandbox portal wrote about the Soviet laser tank. The authors of the material noted that the 1K17 "Compression" machine was intended to disable the guidance systems of enemy missiles.
