The heavy flamethrower system TOS-1 "pInocchio" uses projectiles that can be compared to napalm. In the United States, they were concerned about the "life-sucking" Russian weapons. Journalist and former US Army officer Brent Eastwood wrote about the capabilities of the Russian system for 19FortyFive.
The author notes that "pInocchio" can carry 24 unguided rocket projectiles of 220 mm caliber with an incendiary or thermobaric warhead. This allows the TOS-1 launcher to hit an area the size of two football fields.
According to Eastwood, when the thermobaric head part is detonated, a cloud of explosive material ignites, which "sucks the life out of any person in the impact zone." The author also attributed to the advantages of the CBT-1 the ability to receive data about the target using a drone.
In the material 19FortyFive noted the prevalence of CBT-1 "pInocchio", which is operated in several countries. Flamethrower systems were used in combat by the armed forces of Iraq and Syria.
"This system should become the number one goal of the NATO Air Force," Eastwood stressed. In his opinion, the international community should work out norms to ban the use of flamethrower systems in combat.
In September, The National Interest magazine wrote about the advantages of the tOsochka heavy flamethrower system. The author of the material noted the improved guidance and fire control system of the new vehicle.
In August, the head of the oMsktransmash enterprise, Igor Lobov, told TASS about preparations for the modernization of the TOS-1A "sOlntsepek" heavy flamethrower system. According to him, the car will receive an upgraded fire control system.
