Russian T-80UD tanks and BTR-70 armored personnel carriers imitated a likely enemy at the Zapad-2021 strategic exercises. The decommissioned equipment was shot by tankers and soldiers of motorized rifle units, reports Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
During the exercises, T-80UD tanks and BTR-70 armored personnel carriers received special camouflage and identification marks that distinguished them from friendly equipment. The decommissioned vehicles depicted an attack by a likely enemy, which was repelled by tankers and fighters of motorized rifle units.
The T-80UD tank is a modification of the T-80U with a 6TD diesel engine. The production of the car was carried out in Kharkiv, which made it difficult to repair and modernize Russian tanks. In the mid-1990s, the T-80UD tanks of the Russian army were decommissioned. In total, about 850 cars were produced.
The BTR-70, adopted in 1971, was used in most conflicts on the territory of the former USSR. The basic modifications of the BTR-70 of the Russian army are in storage. The troops continue to operate modified BTR-70M with a new engine and units from the BTR-80.
Earlier, a new B-19 infantry fighting vehicle with an Epoch combat module was noticed at the Zapad-2021 exercises. The armament of the vehicle is represented by a 57 mm caliber cannon and two types of guided missiles.
