The Russian Defense Ministry will add reconnaissance UAVs to the arsenal of sniper units. Sniper pairs will be armed with drones that will allow you to find, identify and monitor targets at a distance of several kilometers. This is reported by Izvestia, citing sources in the defense ministry.
Sniper units of the Airborne Troops will be the first to receive reconnaissance drones. The paratroopers will have to determine the effectiveness of drones in performing tasks. If successful, the drones will be placed at the disposal of sniper pairs of marines, special forces and ground forces.
The characteristics of the new drones that snipers will receive are unknown. It is believed that we are talking about miniature quadrocopters that can fit in a backpack and will be faintly distinguishable at height. Also, the sound of running electric motors will not be heard from a height. The drone will allow snipers to see the surrounding situation on the tablet screen. This will allow you to identify targets that are beyond the line of sight. Thanks to the UAV, the sniper will be able to prepare a position in advance for effective shooting.
The military is also considering the possibility of equipping reconnaissance UAVs with strike functions. This will allow the quadcopter to drop a miniature munition on a group of targets or neutralize enemy equipment.
Earlier it was reported that the Russian Defense Ministry may begin training specialists in unmanned aircraft as early as 2022. The training of the first "UAV specialists" as an experiment will begin this year at the Ryazan Guards Higher Airborne School.
