The crew of the large landing ship of the Northern Fleet "Ivan Gren" worked out in difficult weather conditions the landing of a marine landing on an unequipped coast. This was reported by the press service of the SF.
"The exercise was held in the Motovsky Bay of the Barents Sea. In addition to the landing ship, BTR-80 and BTR-82A armored personnel carriers of the separate brigade of the Northern Fleet Marine Corps were involved in it," the press service informed. They added that this naval amphibious operation was the first in the Arctic practice of the BDK team.
"Ivan Gren" serves in the Arctic, more precisely, in the 121st brigade of the Kola Flotilla of the heterogeneous forces of the Northern Fleet, relatively recently-less than three years. The fate of this ship was not easy. Developed in the Nevsky Design Bureau, it was built in total for more than two decades. At the request of the Navy command, the ship was repeatedly subjected to alterations, until on June 20, 2018, it was accepted into the Russian navy.
The undoubted advantage of the Ivan Gren is that it is the first Project 11711 ship in the modern history of Russia, fully designed and built in our country. In addition, it is the largest amphibious vehicle of the Russian Navy. In its hold, you can place 13 tanks or 36 armored personnel carriers, as well as an entire battalion of marines - 300 people.
The ship is equipped with the latest Duet artillery system. This is a twin installation consisting of two rapid-fire automatic guns of 30 mm caliber. Their rate of fire is about 200 rounds per second. On its deck, the Ivan Gren carries two Ka-29 helicopters that perform a whole range of tasks: from aerial reconnaissance and search and rescue operations to delivering cargo and landing mobile groups at the right place.
When in the summer of 2018, the crew of the Ivan Gren first participated in the grand naval parade in St. Petersburg, many noticed that the BDK is named after the admiral who commanded the naval artillery in the city during the defense of Leningrad from the Nazis.
