The Ka-52 Alligator reconnaissance and attack helicopters will be deployed to Abkhazia for planned tactical exercises. According to the head of the press service of the Southern Military District, Colonel Vadim Astafyev, the Alligators will provide air support to the motorized rifle units of the Russian military base of the Southern Military District during the maneuvers.
"The helicopter units of the army aviation association of the Air Force and air defense of the district will defeat the conditional enemy on the front line along the coast line of the Black Sea, as well as provide cover for heterogeneous units in a training battle," Astafyev said.
During the control check of the troops during the winter period, the use of interspecific units of the Russian military base of the Southern Military District in Abkhazia and the armed forces of the Transcaucasian Republic will be worked out.
According to him, according to the plan, the maneuvers will be held in April at the Gudauta, Tsabal and Nagvalou ranges in mountainous and wooded areas and along the sea coast.
In total, about 1.5 thousand military personnel of the district will be involved in the exercises. In addition, they will involve more than 500 units of military and special equipment, including T-72B3 tanks and BTR-82AM armored personnel carriers.
Astafyev noted that the control check of the district's troops for the winter period is carried out under the leadership of the commander of the Southern Military District, Army General Alexander Dvornikov. The inspection will involve the troops of all the associations of the district, as well as the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla.
