The British magazine Navy Lookout showed a possible image of the Russian nuclear submarine K-329 "Belgorod" project 09852 with the nuclear deep-water station (AGS) AS-31 "Losharik" project 10831.
The publication claims that this submarine can serve as a carrier for other mini-submarines, as well as portable nuclear reactors "to provide power to underwater sensor groups." The magazine recalls that the K-329 "Belgorod" is adapted to launch nuclear torpedoes "Poseidon".
According to Navy Lookout, Russian deep-sea stations pose a threat to the UK and its allies. In the publication of the magazine, in particular, it is said about the possibility of Russian mini-submarines to cut underwater intercontinental communication cables. The publication claims that the Main Directorate of Deep-Sea Research (GUGI) of the Russian Defense Ministry " manages the world's largest fleet of secret manned underwater vehicles."
In August 2020, Forbes wrote that Russian submarines are able to block the intercontinental submarine telecommunications cables connecting the United States and Europe, which creates a strategic vulnerability of the West from Russia.
In July 2019 [...], the AC-31 Losharik of Project 10831 burned down, resulting in the death of 14 sailors. At the same time, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu set the task to restore this AGS as soon as possible.
