On December 16, 2020 [...], the fifth universal nuclear icebreaker of Project 22220 (LK-60YA), named "Chukotka" (construction number 05712), was laid in St. Petersburg at JSC "Baltiysky Zavod" (part of JSC "United Shipbuilding Corporation" - USC).

The ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Chukotka Autonomous district Roman Kopin, General Director of Rosatom state Corporation Alexey Likhachev, Deputy Governor of St. Petersburg Eugene Elin, Deputy Director General of Rosatom - Director of the Directorate of the Northern sea route Vyacheslav Ruksha, Deputy Director of the branch of nuclear courts of the FAE "Russian Maritime register of shipping" Vladimir Egorov, the Vice-President of JSC "United shipbuilding Corporation" David Adamia, Director General of the FSUE "Atomflot" Mustafa Kashka, the General Director of JSC "Baltiysky Zavod" Alexey Kadilov.
On the part of bmpd, we recallthat the contract for the construction of two new serial nuclear icebreakers of Project 22220 was signed between JSC "Baltic Plant" and FSUE " Rosatomflot "(part of the state Corporation" Rosatom") in August 2019. The contract cost amounted to 100 billion 58 million 690 thousand rubles. The delivery date of the icebreakers, which are named "Yakutia" and "Chukotka", is scheduled for 2024 and 2026. The nuclear icebreaker " Yakutia "(construction number 05709) under this contract was laid down at JSC" Baltic Plant " on May 26, 2020.
On contracts in 2012 and 2014 with Federal state unitary enterprise "Rosatomflot" Baltic shipyard is building the first three nuclear-powered icebreakers of project 22220 (LK-60Я), of which the head "Arctic" (building number 05706) was commissioned in Murmansk on 21 October 2020 and icebreakers "Siberia" (building number 05707) and "Ural" (building number 05708) located in the completion afloat. The program for the construction of the first three icebreakers is about three years behind the contract deadlines.
The project 22220 icebreakers are designed by JSC "Central Design Bureau" USK-Iceberg "and are equipped with a new type of two-reactor nuclear power plant RITM-200 with a shaft capacity of 60 MW developed by JSC "Afrikantov OKBM" and are the largest and most powerful icebreakers in the world. The length of the ice of this project is 173,3 m, width - 34 m, design waterline draught of 10.5 m, minimum working draught - 8.55 m. The displacement is 33540 tons.
