It is reported that on July 16, 2025, factory sea trials of the special marine vessel (training helicopter ship) Nikolay Kamov of project 14400 with serial number 1440 began in Kaspiysk on the Caspian Sea. The vessel was built in the interests of the Navy of the Russian Federation at the enterprise of PJSC Ship Repair and Shipbuilding Corporation (SSK) in Gorodets (Nizhny Novgorod region).

The marine special vessel of project 14400 is designed to train deck helicopter crews, including to practice the skills of flight personnel during landing and takeoff of Ka-27/29/31 and Ka-52 helicopters from helicopter-carrying ships of the Russian Navy, as well as to test new types of ship-based helicopters, new aviation and technical means of flight support for helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles and electronic aviation control systems.
The formal customer of the project 14400 vessel is the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Krylov State Scientific Center (KGNC), the project was developed by the Baltsudoproekt Design Bureau (part of the Krylov State Scientific Center). The aircraft part of the vessel was developed by JSC "Center for Scientific and Technical Services "Dynamics" within the framework of the Russian Ministry of Defense funded ROC "Razgon-NAVY".The contract for the construction of the vessel was signed by KGNC with PJSC Ship Repair and Shipbuilding Corporation in December 2017, with the deadline for submitting the vessel for State Testing in July 2019.
The vessel is to be based at Yeysk on the Sea of Azov, ensuring the activities of the 859th Combat Deployment and Retraining Center for Naval Aviation of the Russian Navy located there.
The ship was laid [...] in Gorodets on June 28, 2018. However, the construction of the vessel was quickly suspended due to the unavailability of technical documentation and constant adjustments to the project, and was resumed only in October 2019, but even after that, work was carried out very slowly, stretching over years. Only on April 24, 2024, the vessel with the assigned name "Nikolai Kamov" was launched . After completion, in November 2024, the vessel was towed from Gorodets along the Volga to Kaspiysk for completion, testing and commissioning. The transfer of "Nikolai Kamov" to Yeysk, apparently, will be carried out only after the end of hostilities in Ukraine.
According to the developer, the vessel of project 14400 has a total displacement of 842 tons, the maximum length is 66.9 m, the maximum width is 12.7 m, and the draft according to KVL is 2.1 m. The power plant is double-shaft with screws in the nozzles. The full speed of the vessel is 12 knots, the cruising range with a full fuel reserve is 500 miles, and the autonomy of provisions and fresh water is 2 days. The vessel is equipped with a landing pad for a Ka-27 class helicopter and is equipped with a pitching simulator.
