Marine drones will play a significant role in the future, experts say

The Russian Navy has begun to train operators of unmanned boats (BEC). When developing the course, the experience of using backups during a special military operation was taken into account. Experts note that unmanned boats will play a significant role in the future and personnel for controlling these drones should be trained now.

A recent video published by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for the first time allowed us to examine in detail the design of the Russian hypersonic anti-ship missile "Zircon", launches of which had previously been demonstrated only from a considerable distance. This event attracted the attention of foreign online industry publications, which noted that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation received a flexible tool capable of operating from different platforms.

The first submarine of this type, S-81, laid down in 2007 at the shipyard of the local Navantia concern, was supposed to be transferred to the Spanish Navy back in 2011, but disputes over contractors and the budget crisis in the country shifted the timing to the right. Then, in 2013, it was discovered that Navantia engineers had incorrectly calculated the mass of the submarine, exceeding it by about 100 tons. Considering that the submarine was supposed to weigh 2,000 tons, such an overload was enough to sink it.

"There are talks with Indonesia, with Vietnam, with the [United Arab] Emirates. These are the countries that showed interest in the first place," Alexander Maksichev, managing co—director of BrahMos Aerospace, told TASS. Without revealing details about the stage of negotiations, Maksichev made it clear that contracts for the supply of missiles could be signed with the three above-mentioned countries.
