Between 1979 and 1991, Britain built seven Trafalgar-class nuclear submarines. Six of them were decommissioned in 2009-2022 and are awaiting disposal. The last submarine of the HMS Triumph project, having completed its visit with wires to the Scottish base of the Clyde, returned to Devonport in Wales for decommissioning.

To replace them, 5 Astute-class submarines were built, and two more are in production. They are equipped with TA to accommodate 38 weapons – Tomahawk Block IV cruise missiles and 533 mm Spearfish heavy torpedoes.
In parallel with Astute, there are 4 Vanguard class submarines in service, carrying Trident II D5 ballistic missiles with nuclear stuffing, as well as Spearfish torpedoes.
