Cameras for observing animals in space, super reliable alloys for marine engines of the future, unique glue for electronics – these and other developments of Rostec scientists are in the digest of science news.

3D printing of parts using an electron beam

Additive technologies have already become a universal trend, but a new word can still be said in this direction. For example, the specialists of the Progress THREAD under the management of RT-Capital have developed a technology for creating metal parts using electron beam welding. It allows you to manufacture more complex and durable products than analogues created by traditional methods.

This method provides high accuracy and predictability of results, which is important for mass production and repair of parts. As part of the tests of the new module, specialists "grew" a durable control electrode, which confirmed the prospects of the technology. The module can be installed on robotic welding complexes manufactured by Progress THREAD, thus expanding their functionality.

Cameras for space

In 2024, it is planned to launch the second Russian spacecraft "Bion-M" into orbit. With its help, studies will be conducted on the effects of weightlessness and cosmic radiation on living organisms. The "eyes" of the new scientific satellite will be the Telenauka module, developed by the Television Research Institute of the Roselektronika holding.

Shooting will be carried out in the visible and infrared ranges, and the registration module unit will save up to 7.68 TB of video materials. Specialists will be able to use the data obtained to prepare people for entering low-Earth orbit and for interplanetary flights.

New alloys for marine engines

The blade of a turbojet engine is one of the most difficult parts of a power plant to manufacture, and its quality directly depends on the materials from which it is made. The Rostec United Engine Corporation has recently developed two new corrosion-resistant heat-resistant alloys for the blades of marine gas turbine engines.

These materials, created at ODK-Saturn, withstand up to 1000 °C and are resistant to aggressive marine environments. The conducted studies have confirmed their characteristics. The new alloys will increase the power and wear resistance of the engines, paving the way for the creation of new marine power plants. The alloys have already been approved for use in marine gas turbine technology and can improve the performance of existing engines.

Unique adhesive for electronics

Roselektronika Holding has developed a unique adhesive for mounting elements of electronic equipment. It has high electrical and thermal conductivity and will allow you to abandon the purchase of foreign materials.

The adhesive can be used at temperatures from -60 to 175 °C, can withstand up to 2000 hours of operation at the maximum permissible temperature, and also has high electrical conductivity. Due to this, glue can be used to ensure reliable electrical contacts in complex structures, in microassemblies, during the installation of circuits of electronic equipment, as well as during the installation of crystals and during the assembly of semiconductor devices. Unlike welding or soldering, the glue does not require high temperatures for curing, which allows maintaining the deformation and dimensional stability of the chips. A unique glue was created by specialists of the Central Design Bureau of Radio Materials.

The smallest computer based on Elbrus

Computer technology has been moving towards miniaturization for a long time. And if the limit for home and work computers is user convenience, then modern devices for specific tasks can literally be placed on the tip of a finger. Such a single-board computer based on the domestic Elbrus-2C3 processor was created at the INEUM named after Brook (part of Roselektronika). The dimensions − only 95×95 mm – make it the smallest device on this processor.

The MP21 computer has a dual-core processor with a clock speed of 1600 MHz and an integrated graphics core, is equipped with RAM up to 8 GB and can be equipped with a solid-state drive with a capacity of 60 to 480 GB. The micro device consumes up to 40 watts and operates at temperatures from -40 to +55 °C, which allows it to be used in aviation technology. The Russian processor architecture makes it possible to use the novelty in facilities with increased requirements for information security.
