About 20 crews of Mi-24 and Mi-8 attack and military transport helicopters, as well as Ka-29, Ka-27 and Ka-27PS shipboard helicopters of the mixed helicopter regiment of the Baltic Fleet Marine Aviation Aviation Unit are taking part in tactical flight exercises taking place in the Kaliningrad Region. This was reported by the press service of the fleet.
"During the training flights, tactical episodes will be played to work out tasks for their intended purpose - fire support for units of the army corps of the Baltic Fleet, the destruction of command posts, armored vehicles and manpower of the conditional enemy, conducting aerial reconnaissance and destroying aerial targets, searching and destroying surface ships and submarines of the conditional enemy in the naval ranges of the fleet"- told the press service. They stressed that most of the tactical flight elements will be worked out by helicopter crews based on the combat experience of a special military operation.
It is noted that the entire flight and engineering staff of the units of the mixed helicopter regiment of the naval aviation of the fleet, as well as logistics and communications specialists, are involved in the exercises.
As part of the maneuvers, helicopter crews search the sea for submarines using lowered sonar stations, launch guided and unguided aircraft missiles of various classes, fire from helicopter cannon armament, drop torpedoes and bombs, practice elements of maneuvering during air combat, as well as entering targets under conditions of use by a conditional enemy of electronic suppression means.
Naval aviation pilots perform all combat training tasks both during the day and at night. About 20 sorties are planned for combat training use. The planned exercises will last several days, the naval press service concluded.
About helicopters
The Mi-24 is an attack helicopter capable of destroying armored and unarmored, small-sized and areal ground and surface, low-speed and low-flying enemy air targets, as well as its manpower at the forefront and in tactical depth, to accompany troops during the march and actions in the depth of enemy defense. The Mi-8 is a multi-purpose helicopter that can be used for fire support, suppression of firing points, amphibious assault, transportation of ammunition, weapons, cargo, food, medicines, evacuation of the wounded and dead.
The Ka-27 is a ship-based anti-submarine helicopter designed to detect, track and destroy submarines traveling at depths up to 500 m at speeds up to 75 km/h in search areas remote from the home ship up to 200 km with sea waves up to five points day and night, in simple and difficult weather conditions. The helicopter can perform tactical tasks both singly and as part of a group, in cooperation with ships in all geographical latitudes, and can operate both from an onshore airfield and from a ship.
The Ka-27PS is a search and rescue helicopter designed to search and rescue aircraft crews in distress. One of the equipment options is designed to search for spacecraft descent vehicles and evacuate astronauts.
The Ka-29 is a ship-based transport and combat helicopter designed for landing from ships and vessels of marine corps units with weapons, fire support for amphibious assault, transfer of personnel, cargo from floating bases and supply vessels to warships and Navy vessels.
