As reported on December 2, 2023, PJSC United Aircraft Corporation (PJSC UAC, part of Rostec State Corporation), the Irkutsk Aviation Plant (IAZ), which is part of it, manufactured and handed over to the Russian Ministry of Defense new multifunctional Su-30SM2 fighters and Yak-130 combat training aircraft. The aviation equipment passed the necessary ground and flight tests and went to the place of duty.

"The Irkutsk Aviation Plant fulfills the plan for the production of new aircraft in a timely manner within the framework of the state defense order. A batch of Yak-130 combat training aircraft is completing deliveries of this type of aircraft under the current year's program. The next Su-30SM2 will be delivered to the Russian Aerospace Forces. The company has already started production of aircraft according to the next year's program," said Yuri Slyusar, General Director of the United Aircraft Corporation.
The Su-30SM2 fighters represent a further development of the aircraft in service with the Aerospace Forces and aviation of the Russian Navy. The new machines received an improved complex of avionics equipment. Due to the modernization carried out according to the technical specifications of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the combat capabilities of the aircraft have increased. In particular, the range of detection and identification of aerial targets has increased. New high-precision weapons for hitting air, land and sea targets at a range of several hundred kilometers have been introduced into the fighter aircraft armament.
From the bmpd side, we point out that in this way, IAZ handed over to the Russian Ministry of Defense the second batches of Su-30SM2 fighters and Yak-130 combat training aircraft manufactured by it this year. As usual recently, the KLA in its press release did not disclose the number of aircraft delivered to the Russian Ministry of Defense in this batch, and their side numbers were retouched in official photos and videos.
Earlier in June 2023, IAZ handed over to the Russian Ministry of Defense a batch of Su-30SM2 fighters manufactured for Naval Aviation of the Russian Navy. Presumably, the batch transferred in June was the third batch of Su-30SM2 aircraft built by IAZ under the contract for the supply of 21 fighters of this type for the Russian Navy Naval Aviation, concluded by the Russian Ministry of Defense with the UAC on August 25, 2020.
Now, a batch of Su-30SM2 has been transferred to the Russian Aerospace Forces, and these are the first aircraft of this type (Su-30SM) delivered to the Aerospace Forces since 2018. Apparently, their delivery is carried out under a new contract concluded in 2022. In total, the Russian Ministry of Defense received 124 Su-30SM fighters from 2012 and by the beginning of 2023, of which 30 were delivered to the Naval Aviation of the Russian Navy.
As for the Yak-130 aircraft, it seems that the newly built Yak-130 IAZ aircraft now transferred to the Russian Aerospace Forces are the fourth batch (and the second in 2023) of this type of aircraft built under the contract for the supply of 25 Yak-130 vehicles for the Russian Aerospace Forces, concluded by the Russian Ministry of Defense with the UAC on August 25, 2020 of the year.
Initially, under this contract, according to known data, two batches of only two Yak-130 aircraft each were transferred to the Russian Ministry of Defense - one in December 2021 and one in November 2022. The first batch of Yak-130 in 2023 under this contract was delivered in July 2023.
From 2009 to the beginning of 2023, the Russian Ministry of Defense received a total of 120 Yak-130 aircraft under various contracts - of which 12 of the first two series were built at JSC Nizhny Novgorod Aviation Plant Sokol, and the rest at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant.
