A robot welder for nuclear power plant reactors has been created in Russia
The specialists of the Progress THREAD, which belongs to Rostec, have created the world's first automated CNC welding plant for performing high-precision welding work in very cramped modules of nuclear reactor installations.
At the same time, one of the enterprises included in the structure of Rosatom has already reported on the manufacture of the first fully functional sample of this equipment with integrated argon arc welding and automation system. The advanced welding plant will be able to perform circular welding seams on thick-walled structures widely used in nuclear reactors in an automated mode without limiting the thickness of the parts, and the welding itself is performed with non-melting electrodes, providing a reliable, durable and accurate connection even when working with dissimilar metals.

The key advantages of such a welding robot are the ability to connect heat-resistant steel for a long time, as well as the control of welding parameters and temperature using video surveillance and an infrared pyrometer. In addition, this welding machine continuously, for three hours, can operate at high current parameters reaching 500A, and the process itself is fully automated — all actions, from arc adjustment to the determination of the joints of parts, are performed automatically.
