During the recent National Symposium of the Surface Fleet Association (SNA 2023), the US Navy Command highly appreciated the achievements of the TF 59 group in the development of unmanned systems, writes Naval News.
According to him, the Commander of the Central Command of the US Navy, Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, TF 59 today is a fully combat-ready unit, which by the summer of this year will have more than a hundred unmanned systems.
The American Vice Admiral paid special attention to the so-called "mesh network" demonstrated during the Digital Horizon exercises. The latter implies the deployment of various unmanned systems for operational data collection in a particular water area and their transfer to TF 59 command centers.
In addition, Cooper noted the high efficiency of interaction of unmanned systems with manned ships. So, as an example, the naval officer cited the interaction of a destroyer with two drones that created a radar barrier with a length of 100 nautical miles for this manned ship. This kind of barrier made it possible to actually turn an ordinary destroyer into a stealth ship, according to the Navy command. Therefore, the technology of interaction of drones with manned ships during combat operations is very promising.
Finally, another innovation of the TF 59 group, which the Vice Admiral drew attention to, was the ability to control several unmanned systems at once by one operator. According to him, this result was achieved thanks to the widespread use of artificial intelligence.
TF 59's achievements were also noted by Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro.
