December 9, 2021 in Zelenodolsk at JSC "Zelenodolsk Plant named after A.M. Gorky" (the company is part of JSC "Ak Bars Shipbuilding Corporation" group of companies of JSC "Ak Bars Holding Company") the launch ceremony of the Naro-Fominsk project 21631 small rocket ship under construction for the Russian Navy (code "Buyan-M"; developer JSC "Zelenodolsk Design Bureau") took place with the factory number 641. This is the eleventh small rocket ship of Project 21631.

Launched at JSC Zelenodolsk Plant named after A.M. Gorky, a small rocket ship "Naro-Fominsk" of project 21631 (code "Buyan-M") under construction for the Russian Navy with factory number 641. Zelenodolsk, 09.12.2022 (c) JSC Zelenodolsk Plant named after A.M. GorkyThe Naro-Fominsk Small Rocket Ship (MRC) is the second of three ships under construction under a contract worth 27 billion rubles issued by the Russian Ministry of Defense on September 7, 2016 for the construction of three more MRCS of Project 21631 with factory numbers from 640 to 642 for the Russian Navy.

MRK "Naro-Fominsk" (factory number 641) was laid down in Zelenodolsk on February 23, 2018.

The lead MRK under this contract, Grad (factory number 640), was laid down in Zelenodolsk on April 24, 2017 and launched on September 17, 2021. In August-September 2022, the MRK Grad was towed from Zelenodolsk to Kronstadt by inland waterways, and on October 12, 2022, it entered the Baltic Sea for the first time for factory sea trials, the ship is expected to be commissioned into the Baltic Fleet by the end of 2022.

Under this contract, the construction of the Stavropol MRC is also underway (factory number 642, laid on July 12, 2018). The commissioning of all three ships in the Navy was supposed to be in 2021-2023, but in the end it was postponed by about a year.

The Zelenodolsk plant had already handed over nine Project 21631 MRCS to the Russian Navy. The first two MRCS of project 21631 "Grad Sviyazhsk" and "Uglich" (factory numbers 631 and 632), built in Zelenodolsk, were commissioned into the Caspian Flotilla of the Russian Navy on July 27, 2014, and the third "Veliky Ustyug" (factory number 633) was commissioned into the Caspian Flotilla on December 19, 2014. The fourth and fifth MRCS of project 21631 "Green Dol" (factory number 634) and "Serpukhov" (factory number 635) were built in Zelenodolsk under a contract dated October 19, 2012 and became part of the Black Sea Fleet on December 12, 2015. In October 2016, both of these ships transferred to the Baltic Fleet. On June 1, 2018, the sixth MRK Vyshny Volochek (factory number 636) was introduced into the Black Sea Fleet, on December 10, 2018, the Orekhovo-Zuyevo MRK (factory number 637) was introduced into the Black Sea Fleet, on December 28, 2019, the Ingushetia MRK (factory number 638) was introduced into the Black Sea Fleet, and on January 30, 2021, the Grayvoron MRC (factory number 639) was introduced.

Speaking at the launch ceremony on June 11, 2019 in Zelenodolsk of the Ingushetia MRC, the then head of the Russian Navy's Shipbuilding Department, Rear Admiral Vladimir Tryapichnikov, expressed hope that construction of the modernized ships of Project 21631 would begin in 2024. In August 2022, at the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2022" JSC "Zelenodolsk Design Bureau" presented a model of the MRK project 21635 (code "Sarsar") with increased dimensions and a 16-charge vertical launcher of the universal missile complex UKSK.

Judging by the photos published by the TASS agency from the launch of the Naro-Fominsk MRC, a little earlier at the Zelenodolsk plant, the small rocket ship "Cloud" (factory number 804) of project 22800 (code "Karakurt") was launched without any publicity - the first of two MRCS of project 22800, actually being built on this the enterprise (was laid down on February 26, 2019).
