Bundeswehr Inspector General Zorn said that Russia's military might should not be underestimated The Inspector General of the German Armed Forces, Eberhard Zorn, said that Russia's military might should not be underestimated.

According to him, Russian aviation poses a serious threat to NATO, and only a small part of the navy is involved in the special operation in Ukraine. Whether the Western military should worry - in the material of the "Newspaper.Ru».

The Inspector General of the German Armed Forces, General Eberhard Zorn, said that Russia's military might should not be underestimated, Reuters reports. Earlier, the leaders of European countries announced major changes in their armed forces to deter Russia.

"A large number of Russian ground forces may be tied to Ukraine at the moment, but even so, we should not underestimate the potential of Russian ground forces to open a second theater of operations," said Zorn.

He noted that most of the Russian fleet has not been deployed in Ukraine, and the Russian air force also has significant potential, which poses a threat to NATO. In addition, he mentioned "huge stocks" of weapons, speaking about the equipment of the Russian army.

Earlier, the FRG repeatedly stated that its own resources were exhausted to help Ukraine, since only weapons for the needs of the German army remained on the balance sheet of the Bundeswehr. According to the representative of the Bundeswehr, in view of the "threat posed by Russia," Germany "cannot take such risks."

"We must be prepared for the fact that Putin will take advantage of any weakness and even a temporary gap in NATO's defense capability," he explained.

Russian frightening developments

The military and politicians of the United States and Europe have repeatedly expressed concerns about a number of new Russian developments - hypersonic missiles "Zircon", intercontinental missiles "Sarmat" and unmanned underwater vehicles "Poseidon".

On August 20, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the start of mass production of hypersonic missiles "Zircon" and the continuation of production of hypersonic complexes "Dagger". On August 18, TASS, citing a source in the Russian Defense Ministry, reported that Russia will produce several dozen supersonic Onyx anti-ship missiles in a year.

On August 16, it became known that the Russian Defense Ministry had purchased the latest Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Sarmat is a fifth-generation Russian mine-based strategic missile system with a heavy multi-stage liquid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missile. "Sarmat" is intended to replace the Soviet Voevoda missiles, which are called "Satan" in NATO countries.

On July 24, the American TV channel CNN expressed concerns about the new Russian submarine Belgorod, equipped with Poseidon nuclear torpedoes, which observers call "unique in world history."

"These torpedoes are launched from hundreds of miles away and overcome coastal defenses by traveling on the seabed. Both American and Russian officials say that torpedoes can deliver warheads with a capacity of several megatons, causing radioactive waves that will make sections of the coast uninhabitable for decades. Poseidons are designed to flood coastal cities of the United States with radioactive tsunamis," the publication notes.

The best defense is an attack

On May 31, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the transformation of the Bundeswehr into the largest traditional army in Europe. On June 22, he announced that Germany would expand military activities in the Baltic Sea, and a corresponding agreement was reached with the Lithuanian government.

"In this way, the security of Germany and its allies will be significantly strengthened," he explained.

Currently, the ranking of the member states of the North Atlantic Alliance in terms of the number of regular armed forces is headed by the United States (1.35 million), Turkey (439 thousand) and France (207 thousand). Germany is in fourth place (185 thousand).

On June 7, it became known that the United States had formed a new 11th airborne division in Alaska, called Arctic Angels. The group included the 1st and 4th brigades of the 25th Infantry Division located in Alaska (headquarters in Hawaii). They became, respectively, the 1st and 2nd Brigades of the 11th Arctic Airborne Division. The compound will also include helicopter and artillery brigades and support units. The number of personnel of the 11th Division will be 12 thousand soldiers.

In fact, we are talking about the re-creation of the 11th Airborne Division, which participated in military operations on the Pacific borders during World War II. It was disbanded after 1965. Now the American army will have (in addition to the 82nd) two airborne divisions.

On June 13, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the country's entry into the war economy due to the situation in Ukraine. Then he appealed to the Ministry of Defense with a request to revise the law on military planning for 2019-2025. This document is intended to establish a multi-year planning of expenditures that France allocates for the provision of the armed forces.

"I have asked the Minister and the Chief of Staff of the armed forces to revise the law on military planning in the coming weeks in the light of geopolitical events," Macron said during a speech at the opening of the Eurosatory 2022 international arms industry exhibition.

On June 19, the head of the General Staff of the British Armed Forces, Patrick Sanders, announced the need to create an army capable of "defeating Russia." He noted the need to create an army capable of "fighting in Europe again."

"There is an urgent need to create an army capable of fighting alongside our allies and defeating Russia in battle," the Independent quoted Sanders as saying to his subordinates.

The Mirror edition, in turn, recalls that the smallest British army in 300 years will be subordinated to Sanders, since earlier the government decided to gradually reduce the number of regular troops to 73 thousand.

On June 29, US President Joe Biden announced measures to strengthen the grouping of American troops in Europe.

"We will send two additional F-35 squadrons to the United Kingdom. We will work with our ally to increase the number of US destroyers stationed at the Rota Naval Base in Spain from four to six," he said.

Also, the ratification of the agreements on the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO is currently underway. On July 5, the countries signed protocols on joining the alliance against the background of the Russian special military operation.
