Lieutenant General Anatoly Khrulev told how the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will use the Magister-SV system
The Russian army will soon be armed with new complexes of automated control of fire means of military air defense "Magister-SV". "Newspaper.Ru" together with military experts, I understood the specifics of the operation of this complex.
Magister-SV is a mobile air defense system that operates in close proximity to the contact positions with the enemy and calculates air targets at the battalion-regiment level. The complexes have already passed state tests, have been put on the base of the BMP-3 chassis and will begin to enter the army in 2023, the press service of the holding "Roselectronics" reported.
"In itself, the essence of the purpose of the Magister-SV complex is quite simple - it is a scout for air targets, their recognition and subsequent targeting of short-range air defense fire means. Of the interesting features, it can be noted that the developers, and this is the Rubin enterprise, which is part of the Roselectronics holding, have created a database of optical characteristics of various aerial targets specifically for the Master. That is, roughly speaking, the complex will not confuse the Ukrainian Spectator with the Russian Orion-10 UAV and will clearly give out coordinates for hitting a specific target," he told the newspaper.Ru" military expert, retired Air defense Colonel Valery Koval.
The Russian Military Air Defense System has an extensive range of radar stations and automated controls that enable the operation of anti-aircraft missile systems. These are long-range interception systems, which include complexes of the S-300 and S-400 line, and medium - this is, first of all, the Buk complex.
"A system like the "Magister" has long been asking for an appearance in the troops. For example, in the MANPADS of the same "Arrow" there is a system of identification "friend-foe", but the shooter first visually shoots at an aerial target and only then the rocket goes to the side when it has already reached the angle of attack. The new complex, as far as can be seen from its characteristics, will not only give the exact coordinates of the air target, but also determine its affiliation. This is more relevant for portable anti-aircraft missile systems. The Magister complex is needed by the Russian air defense system in order not to shoot down its own," he told the newspaper.En" military expert Boris Jerelievsky.
The complex of automated control of fire means of military air defense "Magister-SV", according to information from open sources, uses external and built-in means of reconnaissance and coordination of anti-aircraft combat. The complex, the press service of the Rubin NPP reports, includes "a unique optical-electronic station with the functions of automatic detection, recognition and tracking of air targets."
"The Magister-SV complex combines the capabilities of a local survey radar and the high accuracy of measuring coordinates inherent in long-range radar tracking systems. The architecture of construction implemented in it is ahead of all currently known means of radar detection in its class. Simply put, this is the fastest system for the tactical level," Colonel Koval is sure.
Reserve Lieutenant General, former commander of the 58th Army Anatoly Khrulev, in turn, noted that the complex is mainly aimed at combating drones.
"The Magister complex was not accidentally placed on the basis of armored vehicles, in this case on the BMP-3 chassis. This suggests that this system will be used in combat formations, in fact in the zone of destruction by enemy small arms. Accordingly, it will be able to recognize targets at a range of up to 5-10 kilometers and warn about them in time. It is likely that these will be low-speed helicopters, and first of all unmanned vehicles, which have acquired special importance during the recent armed conflicts," General Khrulev concluded.
