How drones and robots guard the state border of Russia
May 28 is the day of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia. In recent years, new equipment has been supplied to the border guards. What exactly and how it is used - in the material of "Gazeta.Ru».
Of the 61 thousand km of the Russian border, 2/3 falls on the sea section. Therefore, the Coast Guard (BOHR) is a key component of the Border Service, which controls the Northern and Pacific Oceans, the Black, Baltic and Caspian Seas, the Amur River and Pskov-Peipsi Lake. Last year alone, more than 40 units of the ship's personnel entered service with the Coast Guard units.
"The ships of the first rank of the 22100 Ocean project, which began to enter service in 2017, should be particularly noted in the line of border guards. Similar ice-class ships have not been built before. They are capable of providing long-term autonomous patrolling in the Arctic latitudes," he told the newspaper.Ru" military expert, captain of the 1st rank Konstantin Puteev.
The Ocean project was developed at the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau (CMCB) specifically for the needs of the BOHR. Previously, the ships for the Coast Guard were only adapted versions of the ships of the Russian Navy.
"The design includes the possibilities of ice travel - the ship is able to independently overcome areas where the ice surface is 70-80 cm.
But the ship can take part in search and rescue operations, assist in extinguishing fires," Puteev said.
The Border Service has its own aviation, which includes more than 80 patrol and transport aircraft, as well as about 200 helicopters. One of the new ones is the Ka-226T light multipurpose helicopter.
"This is a universal helicopter. Very small, but at the same time quite powerful. Two gas turbine engines are installed on the machine. Now these are French Arrius 2G1 engines, but in 2023 they will be replaced by domestic VK-650V engines, which are already undergoing engineering tests. The cruising speed of the Ka-226T is 220 km / h, and the take-off weight reaches 3600 kg. Due to its relative compactness, the Ka-226T can land almost anywhere. This is very important for the tasks that border guards solve," he told the newspaper.Ru" member of the Board of Military Experts Sergey Belousov.
The Border Guard Service is very active today in operating unmanned aerial vehicles. Mainly border guards use devices of the Zala family, which are manufactured in Izhevsk.
"This is a whole line of UAVs. Both aircraft and helicopter type. All complexes have a shockproof housing, navigation and communication system. The image from the drones is transmitted to the computer screen of the attendant. The complexes themselves barrage in the air for more than four to six hours. During this time, the UAV is able to fly around and scan a section of 20-30 km of the border more than a dozen times. After the power reserve runs out, the next drone is launched. So they replace each other, and the border section is under permanent control," said military expert, Candidate of Technical Sciences, reserve Colonel Sergey Banchenko.
Also, the Rubicon system is used for border control, which replaces traditional barriers with barbed wire.
"This is a system of sensors located on the control track. They allow you to determine the direction of movement, speed and route of the border violator in real time. With such parameters, it is easy to distinguish an animal from a human.
Thus, today robots and artificial intelligence help to protect the state border," Banchenko summed up.
