In Russia, they can build two diesel-electric boats of the 636 Varshavyanka project, which are called black holes, per year. This was announced by the General Director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Alexey Rakhmanov, RIA Novosti reports.
"Our capabilities are determined by the budget of the Ministry of Defense, today we can produce two such boats a year. A total of 58 such boats were produced. They are all in service with us in China, India, and other countries," he said.
The CEO of USC stressed that Varshavyanka is in demand among foreign customers. Project 636 submarines are a source of currency for USC and enterprises that participate in cooperation.
The basic version of the Varshavyanka was developed on the basis of the submarine of the project 877EKM "Halibut". Project 636 submarines are operated in Algeria, Vietnam, China and Russia. The arsenal of Varshavianok includes Kalibr cruise missiles.
In November 2021, it became known that the Russian fleet will receive six submarines of project 636.3 until 2024. The new ships will be part of the 19th Submarine Brigade.
In September 2021, Andrey Baranov, Deputy General Director of the Central Design Bureau of Marine Technology (CCB MT) Rubin, spoke about the advantages of Varshavianok. According to him, submarines are called black holes because of the acoustic low noise.
