Until recently, the Ukrainian army had about two hundred T-64BV tanks of the 2017 model in service. During the modernization, night sights were replaced with them - thermal imaging sights were installed instead of the old infrared ones.
We bought NATO-standard radio stations and internal intercom devices. The most dubious novelty was the use of "reactive armor" "Knife". Allegedly, its elements were mounted in old containers from dynamic protection "Contact".
"Knife" was criticized at the time, and not in vain. So, during the fighting in the Donbass, there were cases when this DZ, having worked, inflicted heavy damage to tanks, for example, disabled the chassis, depriving the equipment of the ability to move.
It was then about the BM Bulat tanks, but it turned out to be even worse on the T-64BV, judging by the materials that appeared on the Network, the "Knife" works every other time, and sometimes does not react at all to the anti-tank ammunition that got into it. However, it is not yet clear whether we are talking about an inefficient installation method or the elements are already made with a defect. As a result, the APU has already lost some of the upgraded tanks.
