The marines of the Northern Fleet destroyed the forces of a conditional enemy at a training ground near the village of Sputnik in the Murmansk region. This was announced on Wednesday, February 9, by the Russian Defense Ministry.
According to the ministry, more than 30 pieces of equipment took part in the exercise, including multiple rocket launchers "Grad" and 122-millimeter self-propelled howitzers "Gvozdika". The gunners worked out interaction with air and ground reconnaissance units, which gave out the exact coordinates of the targets.
"For the effective conduct of artillery fire and its correction, unmanned aerial vehicles were used, which are in service with the coastal troops of the Northern Fleet," the ministry said in a statement.
The Defense Ministry also stressed that the exercises took place in the difficult conditions of the Far North and the Arctic.
It is noted that the Marines have worked out camouflage and air defense of artillery positions. The combat crews of the Igla portable air defense systems fired at simulated air targets.
Earlier, on January 26, a detachment of warships and vessels of the Northern Fleet went to the Barents Sea for joint exercises with the Arctic Expeditionary Group of forces and troops. The detachment includes the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov, the frigate Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov, and the large anti-submarine ship Vice Admiral Kulakov. During the exercises, the warships will work out the interaction of diverse fleet forces in the joint solution of various combat tasks.
On the same day, the Ministry of Defense announced the start of exercises with the participation of troops and forces of the Northern Fleet together with the Arctic Expeditionary Group under the leadership of the commander of the Northern Fleet of the Hero of Russia Admiral Alexander Moiseev. The participants will have to work out the protection of communications of the Northern Sea Route, the protection and defense of the garrisons of the Northern Fleet, conduct exercises to counter conventional terrorist groups, block them and destroy them.
