Helicopters and armored vehicles were involved
Yekaterinburg. February 4. INTERFAX - Motorized rifle units of the 201st Russian military base, supported by helicopters and artillery, destroyed conditional terrorists on an exercise in the mountains of Tajikistan, the Central Military District (CVO) reported on Friday.
"According to the plan of the exercise, the calculation of the Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicle complex in the area of the Sambuli training ground revealed the advance of an armed bandit group heading to a locality to carry out a number of terrorist attacks. Motorized rifle units, reinforced with automatic grenade launchers AGS-17 and 120 mm mortars "Sani", moved to the designated area in order to carry out an operation to destroy the enemy," the press service of the district said.
During the exercise, two links of Mi-24 and Mi-8TMV-5-1 helicopters launched a missile attack on a convoy of a conditional enemy, and his manpower, hiding in the folds of the mountainous terrain, was destroyed by motorized infantry from armored personnel carriers BTR-82A with the support of a mortar battery, the Central Military District said.
The 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan is Russia's largest military facility outside of its borders (part of the Central Military District). It is located in two cities - Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It consists of motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance units, air defense units, RCB protection and communications.
Against the background of the Taliban movement coming to power in Afghanistan in 2021 (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation), the Russian military reported on strengthening the base in Tajikistan with new weapons. On December 6, 2021, the Russian military base in Tajikistan received 30 upgraded T-72B3M tanks to replace combat vehicles of earlier modifications.
"The battalion of modern tanks, which has arrived to replace outdated models of equipment, will significantly increase the combat capabilities of the tank unit due to improved maneuverability and armor protection of the crew," the Central Military District noted.
In addition, the commander of the Central Military District, Alexander Lapin, reported in 2021 that three motorized rifle battalions of the 201st base were completely re-equipped with modern military equipment - BMP-2M and BTR-82A. Its anti-aircraft units received new and all-weather "Willow" complexes.
"The Kornet anti-tank guided missile systems, ASVK-M Kord sniper rifles, AK-12 assault rifles, extended-range and powerful rocket-propelled infantry flamethrowers and equipment of logistics and technical support services have also arrived at the base," Lapin said in November 2021.
