Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on the transfer of a number of units and units with regular weapons from the Far East to Belarus for joint maneuvers "Allied Resolve-2022". At the first stage - until February 9 - the redeployment and creation of groups of troops is carried out. At the second stage, joint exercises will be held from February 10 to 20.
According to the Ministry of Defense, two divisions of S-400 air defense systems and Pantsir-S air defense systems, 12 Su-35 fighters, airborne units, marines and gunners have been transferred to Belarus.
The maneuvers are taking place against the backdrop of a crisis in relations between Russia and NATO.
The United States, other NATO countries and Ukraine announced the concentration of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border and the threat of a Russian invasion.
On January 30, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said that Russia does not want to fight with Ukraine, there is no threat from Moscow.
On January 31, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the exercises in Belarus could be used to hide preparations for an invasion of Ukrainian territory.
On the same day, Washington announced that Russia could deploy more than 30 thousand military personnel in Belarus. "We see data that indicate that Russia may be planning to deploy more than 30,000 troops in Belarus near the border with Ukraine in early February," said US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield.
Joint maneuvers of Russia and Belarus should not cause concern, including in the context of the situation around Ukraine, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on January 19. "We have a union state with Belarus, we have relevant plans, these plans must be implemented. Various kinds of events are held, among these events there are sudden inspections, and much more," he said.
