The Ptitselov air defense systems will begin to be delivered to airborne units in 2023
Mobile air defense systems (PVO) "Birdman" next year will begin to arrive in the units of the Airborne Troops (airborne). Russian paratroopers will receive vehicles based on the BMD-4M. This was reported in the February issue of the magazine of the Ministry of Defense of Russia "Army Collection".
In the material of I. Borovkov "Air defense for the "winged infantry"" it was noted that the BMD-4M became the platform for the "Birdman". This will allow the landing of a promising air defense system. The basis of the vehicle's armament will be the combat part of the Sosna anti-aircraft missile system (SAM). Also, the "Birdman" will receive a combined weapons control system.
The radar station of the new system will make it possible to control the airspace within a radius of 16 kilometers. "Birdman" will be able to exchange information with man-portable air defense missile systems (MANPADS) "Willow". The air defense system will allow you to fight helicopters, airplanes, drones, cruise missiles and rockets.
Earlier it became known that the MANPADS "Willow" will be tested at the exercises "Allied Determination - 2022". The military will work out a new system of protection against drones.
In December, the head of the military air defense of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Alexander Leonov, announced that in 2022, the troops will receive the Gibka-S air defense system.
