Izvestia: The Naro-Fominsk MRC with Kalibr missiles will be part of the fleet by the end of the year
By the end of the year, a new ship with Kalibr cruise missiles will join the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy (Navy). The connection will be reinforced with the Naro-Fominsk small rocket ship (MRC) of project 21631 Buyan-M. This is reported by Izvestia with reference to sources in the military department.
Sources noted that the decision to accept the Naro-Fominsk MRC into the Baltic Fleet has already been made. Infrastructure was prepared for the ship at the base in Baltiysk and the crew was formed. Naro-Fominsk, which is located at the shipyard in Zelenodolsk, can be transferred to the fleet in the fall.
The ship of the Buyan-M project received a vertical launch installation for eight cruise missiles. The MRK can carry P-800 Onyx anti-ship missiles and Kalibr cruise missiles. Also, a lightweight version of the Zircon hypersonic missile is being developed for the ships of the Karakurt and Buyan-M projects.
Earlier, the Polish edition of Defence24 told about the defenselessness of the MRC of the Buyan-M project. The carriers of the "Calibers" do not have an effective air defense system, which makes them defenseless against the blows of a likely enemy.
In December, it became known that the Russian frigate Admiral Chabanenko will be able to carry 32 Kalibr, Onyx or Zircon missiles in two launchers. The ship will also receive the Pantsir-M anti-aircraft systems.
In October, The National Interest magazine evaluated the armament of the Russian MRCS of the Karakurt project. The publication notes that the universal ship-based MRK rifle complex will be able to carry hypersonic missiles.
