Defense Minister Shoigu: serial deliveries of the Zircon missile will begin in 2022
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu revealed the timing of serial deliveries of the Zircon cruise missile to the troops. During his speech at an expanded meeting of the board of the defense Department, he noted that the supply of ammunition will begin in 2022. This is reported by TASS .
"The state tests of the hypersonic cruise missile of the sea-based "Zircon" are being completed. Its serial deliveries will begin next year," Shoigu said.
The minister also noted that more than 258 billion rubles will be allocated for the supply of high-precision weapons. According to him, by 2026 the number of cruise missiles of various types will double, and the number of carriers of high-precision long-range weapons will increase by 30 percent.
Earlier, the Admiral Gorshkov frigate launched the Zircon hypersonic missile as part of the tests. The munition hit the target at the Chizha landfill in the Arkhangelsk region.
In November, a TASS source in the Ministry of Defense announced the start of production of Zircon missiles. He noted that ammunition is manufactured at the Reutov NPO of Mechanical Engineering.
