National Interest: The US Navy no longer seems like an "unstoppable sea giant" to Russia
The US Navy Carrier Strike Group (CSG) no longer seems to Russia to be an "unstoppable sea giant". This is reported by the columnist of the National Interest magazine Mark Episkopos.
In his opinion, numerous developments of Russian weapons gave the country an advantage over CSG.
"Mikhail Khodarenok (military observer - approx. "Tapes.<url>") wrote at the end of 2020 that the new Russian cruise anti-ship hypersonic missile 3M22 "Zircon" "will radically change the balance of power on the high seas," the magazine's columnist notes.
Episkopos also mentions an underwater unmanned vehicle with a nuclear engine "Poseidon", which is being prepared for release.
At the same time, the observer notes that Russia has always been a land power, and the United States, in turn, needs a strong fleet.
The journalist summarizes that the American CSG is no longer the irresistible marine giant it was in the past. Russia is increasingly confident that they have the tools to neutralize these military formations in the event of a war with NATO. At the same time, the observer expressed the hope that it would not come to a military conflict.
Earlier, the US Central Command announced tests of laser weapons. The amphibious transport dock of the US Navy USS Portland (LPD 27) hit a training target in the Gulf of Aden as part of a demonstration firing. During the shooting, the LWSD (Laser Weapons System Demonstrator) Mark 2 Mod 0 laser weapon system demonstrator hit a surface training target.
