Defense Blog: BAE Systems has received a contract to upgrade the electronic warfare system of F-35 aircraft
BAE Systems has received a contract for the modernization of electronic warfare equipment of fifth-generation Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II aircraft. The aircraft will receive upgraded jamming equipment. This is reported by the Defense Blog.
The value of the contract that BAE Systems received from Lockheed Martin was $ 493 million. As part of the agreement, BAE Systems will supply advanced equipment for the modernization of the AN/ASQ-23 electronic jamming station.
The modernization of the system will increase the efficiency of detection, classification and jamming. The publication notes that the modular architecture of the AN/ASQ-23 allows you to speed up the software update of all F-35 aircraft.
Earlier, The Drive reported that the F-35 aircraft will receive new engines in 2027. Fighters can be equipped with an adaptive General Electric XA100 or Pratt & Whitney XA101 engine. The new power unit will increase the range of the aircraft by 30 percent.
In November, Russia described the vulnerability of F-35 aircraft. The RIA Novosti publication noted that the use of tanker aircraft deprives fifth-generation fighters of the advantages of reduced visibility. Modern air defense systems can hit several aircraft during refueling.
