The Uraltransmash plant has handed over the first batch of upgraded 2S7M Malka self-propelled guns to the Russian Ministry of Defense. The military received vehicles with new communication equipment and surveillance devices. This is reported by the Uralvagonzavod concern.
"Gearboxes, distribution mechanisms and power supply units have been replaced in the product, surveillance devices, as well as intercom equipment and a radio station have been updated," the report says.
The improved super cannon is based on the Soviet 2C7 "Peony" gun. The machine with a 203 mm cannon remains one of the most powerful artillery installations. "Malka" is designed to destroy enemy objects behind the front line.
In November, the Polish edition of Defence24 assessed the use of large-caliber artillery by Russian troops. The publication noted that the use of heavy self-propelled mortars 2C4 "Tulip" and self-propelled guns 2C7M "Malka" speaks of the pragmatism of the Russian military.
In September, an unnamed Defense Blog source reported that during the Zapad-2021 exercises, Russian troops were practicing the possibility of a nuclear strike. The source of the publication noted that 2S7M "Malka" guns were used at the exercises, which can use nuclear ammunition.
