Unlike conventional submarines, they can wait a long time for an aircraft carrier to approach and launch an attack when it is detected. At the same time, underwater drones, unlike the crews of submarines, do not worry about their possible death.
"Underwater unmanned vehicles with a small number of weapons are capable of operating autonomously under specified conditions and can become a serious problem for aircraft carriers," the publication says.
Combat UAVs are also very dangerous. They have the necessary flexibility to break through the air defense defenses, because in this case there is also no need to worry about the survival of pilots. Drones can use weapons at various distances, and then approach the target and use themselves to deliver a fatal blow. "There is nothing more dangerous than a robot that has nothing to lose," writes 19FortyFive.
Cyberattacks can also cause significant damage, because complex computer systems are used in aircraft carrier groups. At the same time, it is possible to identify the location of the aircraft carrier, effectively "blind" it, make it difficult to complete the mission, disable key systems and neutralize protection.
Another serious threat is hypersonic weapons. Hypersonic missiles can quickly approach the target along an unpredictable trajectory, which makes it difficult to defend against them. "They combine the danger of ballistic and cruise missiles and only at the expense of kinetic energy alone can cause serious damage to an aircraft carrier," the author of the material notes.
19FortyFive also warns about the danger of orbital bombardment systems for aircraft carriers. Satellites using tungsten ammunition as projectiles can identify aircraft carriers and attack them. Even with the help of kinetic energy from orbit, it is possible to deliver a strong blow to a ground target, sinking an aircraft carrier or rendering it useless.
