The Russian company Kronstadt has begun work on the assembly of the first prototype of the Sirius heavy drone. This was announced by the general director of the company Sergey Bogatikov in an interview with RIA Novosti .
The drone with two engines was developed as a heavier version of the Orion drone. The new device is characterized by an increased combat load and range. According to Bogatikov, a prototype of an impact drone is already being assembled at the company's pilot plant in Moscow.
Earlier, Sergey Bogatikov spoke about the open architecture of the Orion drone. According to him, this will allow you to customize a set of weapons at the request of the customer.
In September, Izvestia reported on a new light multipurpose guided missile "product 305", which can enter the arsenal of the Orion drone. The ammunition received a warhead weighing 25 kilograms.
In August 2020, the general designer of the Kronstadt company, Nikolai Dolzhenkov, announced the beginning of the development of a new Sirius heavy drone. He noted that the mass of the device will reach two tons. The new drone will also receive a satellite communication system that will allow you to control the device from an unlimited distance.
The publication of The National Interest suggested that the Russian heavy drone will become an analogue of the American MQ-1 Predator.
