The ships of the Baltic and Black Sea fleets of Russia are reliably protected from enemy missile attacks by air defense systems, Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov, commander of the Black Sea Fleet (in 1998-2002), told RIA Novosti .
"Firstly, ships are not ships, they have a security and defense system and, most importantly, they are well armed. In addition, our ships are always covered from the air, and they themselves are maneuverable — it will not be so easy to hit them with missiles, especially subsonic ones like Tomahawk and Harpoon. Such missiles are shot down by our air defense, and they are shot down with high enough accuracy, so there is no need to scare the Baltic and Black Sea fleets," the admiral assured.
Thus Komoyedov commented on the publication of journalist David Ax in Forbes magazine, according to which two American B-1B Lancer strategic bombers have the ability to launch 48 AGM-158C Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) missiles at the Baltic Fleet.
In June, The Drive reported that the B-1B Lancer of the United States Air Force (Air Force), during May flights with allies over the Black Sea, practiced the use of AGM-158C LRASM anti-ship missiles to destroy potential enemy targets.
