"During the exercises, issues of management and interaction of units in the organization of the anti-amphibious defense of the Sakhalin coast, the introduction of new tactical techniques, taking into account the experience of conducting combat operations in the Syrian Arab Republic, were worked out," the press service told reporters.
In addition, units of the motorized rifle unit of the 68th Army Corps of the VSO were involved in the exercises. According to the scenario of the exercises, artillery units on the artillery installations of the self-propelled gun "Hyacinth" destroyed the main landing means of the enemy, who was trying to land on the coast of Sakhalin Island.
It is noted that the defeat of the conditional enemy was inflicted by tank units on the T-80, and motorized rifle units completed the destruction of the enemy. Aileron-3 aerial drones were also used in the exercises.
The exercises became a stage of preparation for the strategic command and staff exercises "Vostok-2022", which will be held on the territory of the VSO in 2022.
On September 16, the Russian-Belarusian strategic exercises "West-2021" ended. They involved about 200 thousand military personnel, more than 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including over 290 tanks, more than 240 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships. The troops trained at five training grounds in Belarus and nine in Russia, in the Baltic Sea.
On September 10, the active phase of the exercises took place. During this time, the military of the Baltic Fleet organized the defense of the seacoast and the amphibious landing operation with the involvement of the marines of the Northern Fleet. In addition, for the first time in Russia, a mass landing of more than 600 military personnel in full gear was carried out at night. The landing was carried out by the Pskov Airborne unit. In addition to the personnel, 30 units of military equipment were landed.
