Russia has nuclear weapons capable of killing billions of people, says the American publication 19FortyFive.
The publication claims that Russia currently has the largest and one of the most ambitious nuclear capabilities in the world.
It is noted that in total, the United States, Great Britain, France, Israel, Russia, China, India, Pakistan and North Korea have approximately 13,500 warheads. "But the United States and Russia are the undisputed leaders in the nuclear weapons arena, having about 5,800 and 6,400 nuclear warheads, respectively," the newspaper writes.
The publication says that "nuclear weapons remain at the center of Moscow's military strategy," allowing "the Kremlin to pursue its regional goals and expand its sphere of influence without fear that the United States or NATO will start a full-scale conflict."
The publication reminds that Russia has a nuclear triad consisting of land, sea and air components. The publication notes that, in particular, Russian intercontinental ballistic missiles can carry up to 1,189 nuclear warheads, and Russian nuclear submarines can carry about 624 nuclear warheads.
In October, Izvestia, citing sources in the Russian Defense Ministry, wrote that the Vilyuchinsk naval base in Kamchatka, which NATO calls the "Hornet's Nest", will be expanded and made practically invulnerable to the enemy.
In the same month, USNI News noted that the annual US military spending on the purchasing power index is comparable to the combined defense spending of China and Russia.
