The Vilyuchinsk naval base in Kamchatka, which is called the "Hornet's Nest" in NATO, will be expanded and made practically invulnerable to the enemy, Izvestia writes, citing sources in the Russian Defense Ministry.
According to the newspaper, new reinforced concrete shelters for nuclear submarines (NPS) are currently being completed at the Russian strategic facility and they are preparing for the arrival of the modern floating pier PM-61M1, which will become the base for submarines of project 955 of the Borey type (955A of the Borey-A type). The publication notes that the new berth allows for operational relocation, which allows expanding the geography of the fleet deployment.
It is also planned to strengthen the Units of underwater sabotage forces and means (PDSS).
"Submarines are particularly vulnerable at the base and when going to sea - in areas of combat deployment. During the threatened period, which precedes the beginning of hostilities, the submarine will be hunted, saboteurs will be activated. The PDSS detachments will have to repel all such attacks and prevent them from entering the base," said Igor Kurdin, the former commander of the submarine of the captain of the 1st rank.
In August, the American edition of USNI News noticed that in a picture from space of Maxar Technologies, demonstrating the oceanographic research vessel Akademik Alexandrov of the 20183 project in Severodvinsk (Arkhangelsk region), you can see a product that resembles a Russian torpedo of the apocalypse — a nuclear underwater drone Poseidon 2M39.
