The Ministry of Defense plans to strengthen army medical units with drones.
Also, this special equipment can be used during the elimination of the consequences of man-made disasters or natural disasters. The novelties will be part of special purpose medical detachments, as well as individual medical units.
In the future, drones will not only find victims, but also deliver medicines and medical equipment under enemy fire. Experts note that drones can provide assistance not only in wartime, but also in peacetime, which will save people's lives.
As sources in the military department told Izvestia, the decision to create drone units is currently being worked out. It is planned that they will include not only classic UAVs, but also quadrocopters. As part of this work, the first exercises with medical UAVs have already been conducted. The task of the drones will be to search for the wounded and deliver small loads of medicines. It is expected that they will help military doctors not only in combat, but also during the elimination of the consequences of natural disasters and man-made disasters.
Drone units, first of all, will receive special purpose medical detachments (MOS), as well as separate medical battalions and companies. MOSN are independent structures within a district or fleet that include surgical operating rooms, self-dressing rooms, field kitchens and baths, as well as tents for accommodation and deployment of wards for the wounded and sick. The number of each detachment is about 200 military personnel.
Highly qualified doctors serve here — for example, during the recent military conflict, they provided assistance to the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh. MOSN is actively involved in major army exercises. During the recent bilateral maneuvers of the Southern Military District, UAVs helped employees of the Black Sea Fleet medical detachment in searching for wounded on the battlefield.
Previously, drones were also used by military doctors — for example, unmanned aircraft delivered medicines to hard-to-reach areas of the Far North.
