MOSCOW, October 12 - RIA Novosti. For the first time during the exercises, Russian sailors used reconnaissance drones from aboard the ship to control hitting the target with KALIBR cruise missiles, the press service of the Southern Military District (SE) told reporters.
"The crew of the Veliky Ustyug small rocket ship of the Caspian Flotilla, as part of the final inspection for the 2021 academic year, performed practical firing using the KALIBR missile system. For the first time, the servicemen used a non-standard method of objective control of the destruction of coastal targets by the calculations of the Orlan-10 and aIleron-3 UAVs, launching drones from the flagship of the Dagestan missile ship flotilla," the district said.
The Southern Military District noted that the use of drones from the ship is associated with a number of difficulties. In particular, there are difficult launch and landing conditions on the ship (pitching, limited size of the launch pad on the ship, the probability of landing the device on water, etc.), aggressive external environment (the use of drones at an altitude of more than 1.5 thousand meters with wind gusts reaching 10 m / s).
The complexity of ensuring stable communication with the unmanned vehicle and its navigation also plays a role due to the complex relief of the underlying surface – a huge body of water on which it is almost impossible to link to the terrain.
