On Friday, the command and staff exercises ended in Russia. Among the equipment of the parachute regiment, which took part in maneuvers at the Pesochnoye training ground in the Yaroslavl region, an armored personnel carrier BTR-MDM with a ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun was noticed. This is reported by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
The division of the Ivanovo Guards Airborne Unit used BMD-4M amphibious assault vehicles and armored personnel carriers BTR-MDM "Shell". Part of the armored personnel carriers were equipped with a 23 mm ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun. Previously, such weapons were installed on armored personnel carriers BTR-3D.
The rate of fire of two ZU-23-2 guns reaches 2000 rounds per minute. The anti-aircraft gun allows you to hit air targets at an altitude of up to 1500 meters. Also, the ZU-23-2 allows you to fire at ground targets, including cars and lightly armored vehicles.
The BTR-MDM armored personnel carrier is an upgraded version of the BTR-MD amphibious floating vehicle. The main difference was the use of the BMD-4M chassis.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry published a video showing the race of Russian BMD-2 and BMD-4M landing vehicles. The competition was held within the framework of the "Landing Platoon" competition.
