INTERFAX - More than 800 servicemen and about 400 units of military and special equipment were involved in a tactical exercise of the parachute battalion and support units of the Ivanovo Guards Airborne Unit, the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Defense Ministry reports.
"At once in three regions of the country - the Ivanovo, Kostroma and Yaroslavl regions - a tactical exercise of the parachute battalion and units of combat, logistics and technical support of the Ivanovo Guards Airborne unit was held, with live firing," the report says.
According to the department, in accordance with the plan of the exercise, the units of the compound had to work out conducting maneuverable defense and offensive, both during the day and at night. "As part of the exercise, the issues of transferring troops over long distances in a combined way were worked out, during which the units made a march of more than 500 kilometers, and also carried out the transfer of personnel by military transport aircraft," the Defense Ministry noted.
In order to complicate the performance of the task by combat units, the conditional enemy was divided into small groups and dispersed within a radius of 10 km.
"After conducting aerial reconnaissance, the Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) complexes and identifying the most important objects of the conditional enemy, an air strike was carried out, after which the paratrooper units, with the support of artillery and under the cover of BMD-2 amphibious assault vehicles, carried out an offensive on the positions of the conditional enemy, capturing a favorable line, "the report says.
"In addition, during the exercise, the issues of evacuation of the wounded from the battlefield and their delivery to the field hospital of the compound for medical care were worked out. The evacuation of damaged equipment and its restoration was carried out by the forces of the repair company of the compound, " the department noted.
According to the department, after completing the nearest task, the paratroopers ' units marched on standard equipment to a new area located 50 kilometers from the landing site and occupied favorable lines. During the movement of the column, introductory exercises were worked out to repel the attack of sabotage reconnaissance groups.
